Variation in floral traits has often been attributed to selection by pollinators, but recent evidence suggests that other biotic and abiotic agents may also contribute to floral trait differentiation. In the hemiparasitic species Castillea coccinea, populations are characterized by two distinct morphs with either red or yellow floral bract color. This study investigated the potential drivers of floral trait variation in C. coccinea, including indirect selection through pleiotropic associations of floral color, as well as possible pollinator-mediated selection.
