Measurement of the WW Cross-Section from the Dilepton Decay Mode at the LHC
PublicThe pp → W + W − process is important as it allows the test of electroweak theory. Mea-surements of this processes have lead to reduced uncertainties on many other processes one of which being the Higgs. There have been discrepancies between predicted and measured cross-section values for pp → W + W − , larger than other electro weak processes. Standard analyses rely heavily on jet multiplicity cuts to remove major backgrounds. These cuts lead to hard to calculate log correction factors which could be the cause of the discrep- ancies. This thesis presents a measurement of the W + W − → 2`2ν cross-section without strict jet multiplicity cuts, relying instead on a set of Random Forest Classifiers. With this technique we measure the pp → W + W − → 2`2ν cross-section.
